Edmund Osthaus 1858-1928
After completing his studies in Dusseldorf, German born Edward Osthaus came to the United States in 1883 and became the principal of the Toledo School of Art.
After the school closed, Osthaus, a keen hunter and angler, established himself as the foremost American painter of sporting dogs. Osthaus followed dog shows
and exhibitions and executed commissions all across the country. His is a signature style, inimitable and instantly recognizable.
